Happy Thanksgiving!
Thanksgiving brings with it all sorts of namesake feelings...
This week, two thoughts came to mind. The first was during the Gathering by the Bay Summit at Mission Springs. During our Transformation Cities breakout session, we chatted about a line Jesus uttered which is captured in the Book of Luke;
“For the Son of Man has come to seek and to save that which was lost.” (Lk 19:10) With this English rendering of the Greek, a question can easily come to mind...what was lost?
The second was Oswald this past Tuesday (Full text here; http://utmost.org/shallow-and-profound/)
Oswald's opening line, "Beware of allowing yourself to think that the shallow aspects of life are not ordained by God; they are ordained by Him equally as much as the profound." He's always so interesting; here "juxtaposition-ing",
being prideful not being shallow, or having a false humbleness by being shallow...yeesh! Where can we go?
Chambers goes on; "To be shallow is not a sign of being sinful, nor is shallowness an indication that there is no depth to your life at all--the ocean has a shore. Even the shallow things of life, such as eating and drinking, walking and talking, are ordained by God."
I began to consider what was created when men and women chose independence from God...prior to that, eating, drinking, walking and talking were created and "it was good, it was very good!"
Is "THAT" that which The Son of Man came to seek and to save? That which what was lost in the Garden? Relationships, family, creativity, purpose, living regular life?
In this Thanksgiving, this is what I'm thankful for, God ordained eating, drinking, walking and talking with family and friends...to be thankful for that ordained life we've been given to live.
Be blessed and joyful during this season of remembrance and celebration!
